SOUND FOR A BETTER CARE IN THE ICU
June 26th and 27th
It is with great pleasure that we announce that registration for the NICIS (Neurosciences in Intensive Care International Symposium) 2023, which will take place on June 26 and 27 at the Institut Pasteur and whose theme is « Sound for a better care in ICU », is now open.
During these two days of symposium, we propose to discuss how the reaction to sounds can inform about patient’s cognition and how music can be used as a treatment.
The first day will focus on the physiological basis of consciousness, the brain processing of different types of sounds (familiar sounds such as one’s own name, threatening sounds, sounds of different intensity, approaching sounds exploring the peri-personal space) and the use of different innovative auditory algorithms used for the prognosis of patients with impaired consciousness in the ICU.
The second day will mainly focus on the effect of music for therapeutic purposes, addressing in particular its effects on delirium or on dyspnea, for example. Finally, we will address the potentially deleterious effects of noise in the critical care patient, and in particular the acute (resuscitation delirium) or chronic (anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder for example) psycho-cognitive complications induced by these auditory stimuli. Finally, the congress will explore the future of neuroscience and critical care, as well as the importance of translational research, at the crossroads of basic and clinical research.
We are also pleased to announce the participation of Armand Amar for a prestigious conference. Armand Amar is a French composer of international renown, specialized in film music. His conference on « Auditory Sound Effects » will explore ways to use sound and music to create emotional and cognitive responses in the audience. His knowledge of transcendent music will also be of particular interest for the exploration of consciousness.
A poster session is also organized on the second day, so that participants can present their work around the theme of « critical care and neuroscience ». The two best abstracts will be rewarded with a prize of 500 and 250 euros! You will find the submission recommendations on the website www.nicis.fr.
Finally, a party open to all participants will take place on June 26th from 7:30 pm in the Corcoran bar in Montmartre in order to continue the discussions in a friendly atmosphere and enjoy the beauty of the Sacred Heart.
We look forward to welcoming you!
