The European Association of Healthcare Managers (EAHM) announced its new president in Cascais, Portugal on Friday.
Philippe Blua, Director of the Hospital Centre of Troyes in France, was elected at the 48th EAHM Ordinary General Assembly held at the 27th EAHM Congress. Blua succeeded Gerry O’ Dwyer, CEO of the South / South West Hospital Group in Ireland.
Speaking to HealthManagement.org on the sidelines of the congress, Blua said one of his objectives was the promotion of exchange amongst hospital managers across Europe.
“We have to deal with new technology and
financial issues,” he said. “Our problems are pan-European so we have to find
pan-European solutions.”
Comparing the current world climate of technological innovation and rapid change as similar to the 15th century Renaissance era, Blue added that it was critical to find new solutions because old methods were not working.
Also on his agenda is the establishment of a hospital management MBA to enable participants to build a new future for healthcare with a European perspective.
More than 1000 delegates from 35 countries attended the EAHM Congress. People-centred care, integration of care, innovative provision models, population health and sustainability dominated the agenda. Next year’s congress is being held in Ghent, Belgium, September 12 – 14.
